In line with the current COVID-19 guidelines from the BC Government, we are suspending our group classes.
Instead, we will be offering private lessons, and independent training times for our experienced acrobats and aerialists.

Independent training is a scheduled time for athletes to train on their own with one of our experienced coaches supervising. Coaches are present to answer questions and provide some guidance during this hour if needed, but members are expected to train on their own.

Independent training is offered by level, as for safety reasons, the supervising coach will need to have a knowledge of all the skills being trained.
We have temporarily removed our intro-level classes. If you have never done aerial or acrobatic training before but would like to join independent training times, please contact us to book a private lesson first.

What is flying trapeze?

Flying trapeze is a circus act where a person swings through the air on a bar connected to two cables. The “flier” jumps from a platform while holding onto the trapeze bar and swings, flips, and twists through the air to be caught by a second person, known as the ‘catcher.’

The flying trapeze was invented in 1859 by a Frenchman, Jules Leotard, who connected a bar to two cords above the swimming pool in his father’s gymnasium in Toulouse. He became so famous that he performed his act for European aristocracy. He is now honoured by having the trapeze artist’s costume named after him: the leotard.

Will I get to fly in my first flying trapeze class?

We start each class with “ground school,” where you will learn basic positions close to the ground. Then, with the assistance of our instructors, you will attempt it on the flying trapeze.

We teach each student according to individual comfort and skill levels, and allow students to advance at their own pace.

All flying trapeze classes start with a quick warm up and a stretch, followed by our “ground school” lesson, where we teach you the trick you will do on a low practice bar. Then everyone is fitted with a safety harness, and the rest of the class is spent doing the flying trapeze.

Flying trapeze classes have a minimum of 2 students, and a maximum of 5.

flying trapeze • skill development

Skill Development classes do not have catching. If a student masters their trick before the end of the class, we will teach them a new trick. This is a great class for those who want to focus on perfecting a trickier skill that might not be ready for a catch.
